Little white lies are necessary in life
Sometimes it is a good idea to lie to your kids. Last night Katey had some friends over and played in the yard, running around the yard and into the woods in the back-they had a blast! Everyone was a filthy mess by the end of the night...Kool Aide, pizza, fruit, and some delicious cheesecake for supper. Everyone had red mustaches and black feet...So I threw the girls in the tub and they were playing nicely when I noticed a tiny tiny black dot on Katey's shoulder. It is insane to me how well I know my kids and their bodies that I immediately noticed this small almost sand like item that was out of place and certainly did not belong on her little shoulder blade. So I tried to wash it off with some water...didn't budge. I tried to brush it off with my hand...didn't budge. It was then that I quickly realized she had a deer tick embedded in her shoulder!! Deer tick=Lyme's disease=panic. So I got my tweezers ready. Katey of course was on high alert and wanted to know what the tweezers were for. So I had two choices: Lie or tell her that she has a tick in her back and I have to take it out with a tweezers. I lied. I told her I thought she had a little sliver in her back and I needed to get it (side note: she has already had slivers...freaked out and realized this is no big deal). So she hopped right out of the tub and stood perfectly still while I removed the tick. She then begged to see her sliver and I showed her what was in the tweezers. Her response was "THAT IS NOT A SLIVER THAT IS A BUG!". That is when I knew I did the right thing. Had she known there was a spider type bug on her back-that tick would have caused World War Three and I am quite sure we would have all been in tears by the time it was removed. Sometimes lying is necessary:)

But now you'll never be able to use the sliver trick again! You'll have to think of something new, though I hope this deer tick thing doesn't become normal where you are at now.
This brought back memories of when I was a kid and had to have "tick checks" when coming inside at night. And I had to get summer hair-cuts to make "tick checks" easier. Oh the joys of growing up in Wisconsin!
I think Kadin and Katey are very similar ... we have used white lies to get through more than a few traumatic things with him too!
Sometimes you just do what you have to!
