What the ^&*&$#@)!!

We have reached a milestone in our house...Makenna is now starting to pick up the fine art of swear words. I am going to be honest when I say that I really don't believe in censoring how I talk. I am just too far gone in using swear words that I cannot start saying things like "oh sugar" or "fluff" when what I really need to get my point across. I am also very aware of the fact that when my kids swear, it is direct reflection on words they hear at home-and I own the fact that they are learning it from their one and only Mama! I remember Katey going through a phase of using swear words and she grew out of it pretty quickly-I am hoping that Makenna will follow suit, because let's face it, I really will be embarrassed if she goes to 4K and says "shit" out loud when she spills her milk. The best part about hearing kids swear is that they ALWAYS use the words appropriately. Can anyone keep a straight face when they hear a two year old say "dammit" when they drop a toy or scribble on the wrong page of a book? Or when Katey was 3 years old and so mad at Joe and I (the specifics of our argument I don't remember) that she yelled from her carseat "you are both just being assholes!" It makes me laugh just thinking about that day! So now that Makenna is really mastering the English language it is no surprise to me that she is learning to swear. The other night while watching a Brewer game Joe was upset about a bad call and yelled at the TV. Makenna who was quietly drawing at her easel looked up and said "fuck" and then just continued about her business. Being the good parents that we are; we just looked at each other, smiled and didn't say a word. I won't censor myself and use silly baby words instead of swear words, but I can at least start trying to not use the F bomb quite as much...at least until Makenna knows better and won't repeat it:)

This post makes me smile just reading it...I don't even have to be there. You are right thought she will grow out of it.
